Clean Up The Sea of Cortez – The Chatarra Project Sails

The Chatarra (junk) raft, a 16 foot by 8 foot raft made in San Felipe Baja of re-used materials and plastic bottles will leave San Felipe Malecon on July 1, at 10AM on a journey down the Sea of Cortez to La Paz, Baja California Sur. The journey is estimated to take between 30 and 40 days, with a early August arrival in La Paz.
The Chatarra is a plastic waste awareness project geared towards kids. The idea is to capture their attention and to provide education and fun information on the damage of littering and trashing Baja and the fun and important things kids (and their families) can do to reuse, reduce, and recycle.
The raft trip is only the kick off of a on-going Baja clean project of the Baja Good Life Club. In addition to providing information the project will support beach clean up groups and activities through the Baja, and will also include guided eco-trips, for example in 2014 the project hopes to clean the graffiti off the rocks of Catavina.
Please support the project.
